Der Schweizer Nationalrat hat entschieden: kiffen bleibt strafbar. Die Gegner einer Freigabe argumentieren, dass unter Hascheinfluss Unfälle passieren können. Was durchaus nicht zu bestreiten ist. Nur verstehe ich jetzt die Logik nicht so ganz: kiffen ist eine Droge und kann Unfälle fördern. Wo bleibt da die Konsequenz bezüglich Alkohol? Weil es wie Tabak eine von der Gesellschaft akzeptierte Droge ist? Das ist wahre Doppelmoral.

Was es so alles gibt. Da komme ich nach dem Mittagessen zurück und finde eine Mail: "Rückruf Hr. X von der Stadtpolizei Y". Erster Gedanke: "Scheisse, ein Rotlicht überfahren" Der *staun*-Effekt kommt beim Gespräch mit Herr X, als sich herausstellt, dass ich nicht der Gesuchte sein kann (es geht um eine Zeugenaussage). Zitat: "Der Name stimmt ungefähr, irgendwo müssen wir ja anfangen". Jetzt kommt der Clou: Herr X hat mich im Büro angerufen. Die Frage habe ich mir erst nach dem Gespräch gestellt: woher hat der gewusst, wo ich arbeite?

Welche tragische Ironie: da wartet eine Frau auf ein neues Herz, bekommt es und somit vermeintlich ein neues Leben - und stirbt. Und das alles aufgrund eines "Kunstfehlers": falsches Herz erwischt, hoppala. Wie muss ich mir das vorstellen? Ins falsche Regal gegriffen?
Ich musste glücklicherweise noch nie ins Spital und möchte das in nächster Zukunft auch so belassen...

In den unendlichen Weiten des W3 bin ich auf einen interessanten Leserbrief an die Moderatorin einer Radiostation gestossen. Es geht dabei darum, dass heutzutage die Begriffe "Liebe" und "Hass" nach Meinung des Schreibers leichtfertig gebraucht werden. Für alle, die der englischen Sprache mächtig sind:

On yesterday’s show you took some time to discuss the use and overuse of the word “hate” in today’s society. You were reacting to the comments you often hear that people “either love you or they hate you.” Though I agree with you about the misuse of the word “hate,” I think you missed something in your comments. You see, though I enjoy your show and appreciate your efforts to help people direct their lives in a more responsible and positive way, I do not “love” you. I don’t even know you. I reserve love for my wife, my children, my parents, my siblings, my nieces and nephews, and maybe for a few others that are close to me and have touched my life in an important and meaningful way. I like your show, I enjoy your show, and if I ever met you I might even like you – but I can’t say I’d “love” you.

I believe the casual use of the word “love” can be just as damaging as the casual use of the word “hate.” This is what allows children to grow up with a serious misunderstanding of what love is and then move into their teens to start relationships and immediately believe they love the other person in the relationship. You’ll often hear a teenager use the argument that it’s okay to have sex with someone if you “really love them,” yet they don’t have any idea what love really is. The girl in the relationship then ends up pregnant and alone, trying to make the decision between abortion or adoption still without knowing what love is. Young people then enter into marriage believing they love their spouse, but end up divorced a couple years later, realizing that the marriage wasn’t right and that they really didn’t love their spouse. The word love is commonly used to describe something a person “really, really likes,” like a pizza, but really, really liking your spouse will rarely push people through the difficult obstacles that come up in marriage and raising children.

So as important as it is to avoid improper use of the word “hate,” I think we must be just as careful to avoid applying the word “love” to those people or things we merely like.

Die Frage von N. ist berechtigt: wie viele Frauen haben schon Kriege angezettelt? Geländewagen erfunden, die 20 Liter auf 100 Km schlucken? Atomraketen angehäuft? Auch als Vertreter dieser Spezies kann ich da wenig Gegenargumente liefern. Nur: würden Frauen den Job per Definition besser erledigen? Nehmen wir eine Hillary Clinton. Typus knallharte Businessfrau. Hillary for President! Sie legt sich mit der mächtigen Industrielobby an und setzt alle wichtigen Umweltschutzgesetze durch? Würde sie den Waffennarren einen Riegel schieben und sich mit der NRA anlegen? Oder das gigantische Armeebudget halbieren, damit alle Amis eine Krankenversicherung haben? Ich bin skeptisch. Auch eine Frau müsste mit den Realitäten kämpfen. Aber trotzdem: Frauen an die Macht! Schlechter als wir Männer könnt ihr's nicht machen. Um noch mal meine liebe Freundin N. zu zitieren: "ich bin immer noch überzeugt, der Mann ist ein Prototyp und nur aus Versehen auf die Erde gelangt..."

Wer wäre da nicht auf die Antwort gespannt?

Laura Schlesinger is a US radio personality, who dispenses advice to people who call in to her Radio show. On her radio show recently, she said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination, according to Leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance.

The following response is an open letter to Dr. Laura, penned by a US resident, which was posted on the Internet. It's interesting, as well as thought-provoking.

Dear Dr. Laura:
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination... End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? -
Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair; as we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.
